Sigmund Gottlieb (born October 21, 1951 in Nuremberg ) is a German journalist and was editor-in-chief of Bavarian television from 1995 to 2017 .

Origin and education

Sigmund Gottlieb grew up as the child of a teacher in Nuremberg. He attended high school there and graduated from high school in 1971. He studied political science , modern history and German at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and passed the state examination in 1977 . Gottlieb wrote newspaper articles as a schoolboy and during his studies he became a freelance commentator for the Nürnberger Zeitung .

Professional background

From Münchner Merkur to ZDF

After an internship at the Münchner Merkur , Gottlieb became the newspaper's editor for domestic politics in 1978. He later worked as a spokesman for the news program Rundschau on Bavarian television and switched to ZDF in 1981 , initially as a correspondent in the Munich regional studio and in 1986 in the Bonn capital studio. In 1988, Gottlieb was promoted to deputy editor-in-chief and moderator of the ZDF- heute-journal in Mainz .

Bavarian television

From 1991 Gottlieb worked again for Bavarian TV in Munich , until 1995 as deputy editor-in-chief and head of the "Politics and Current Affairs" program area. From 1995 to 2017 he was editor-in-chief and from 2001 to 2014 he was also deputy television director of the BR.

Gottlieb was often a commentator on the ARD - Tagesthemen and moderator of current focus programs in the first . Teaching

From 1989 to 1991 Gottlieb taught as a lecturer at the Institute for Journalism at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . Awards

criticism

Gottlieb's closeness to the CSU was repeatedly a topic in the press. Gottlieb received a great response in the media when he abruptly interrupted a statement by Sigmar Gabriel on the evening of the Bavarian state elections in 2013 . Gabriel's remarks, according to Gottlieb, were "all very expected". On the grounds that he wanted to provide “a bit of variety”, Gottlieb then presented a portrait of Horst Seehofer with the note that Seehofer was the man who “was able to give the CSU their pride back”.
