Now red i is a citizens' program on BR television , which the journalist and BR editor Franz Stefani conceived and realized in 1971.

Concept and content

The inventor of the program, Franz Stefani, had a “program from citizens for citizens” in mind. His program conception, according to which citizens present their personal problems and politicians comment on them on television, was something new in the German television landscape at the time and is still considered a model for community-based program formats.

The broadcast format now red i has the special feature that the television producers come to the citizens in an inn , where they express themselves in the so-called "inn discourse" on local, regional and national topics. The citizens discussing their experiences and confronting the responsible Bavarian politicians participating in the program with specific problems and suggestions. For this purpose, a location in Bavaria is selected once a month, to which the BR team comes and gives the local citizens the opportunity to present their concerns in the respective inn.

From 1971 to 2014, the program consisted of two separate elements: On the one hand, the recording of the issues and problems raised by citizens in the hall, and on the other hand, the studio round broadcast live a few days later in Munich with the statements of the politicians. A topic from the hall was brought in alternately and discussed in the studio immediately afterwards. As a rule, information and impressions about the respective venue supplemented the program. From 2014 the politicians were invited directly to the inn and answered questions from the citizens in the live broadcast.

Since April 2016, Jetzt red i has been running as a regular citizens' program alternating every two weeks with the Münchner Runde . Since then, the program has been monothematic and deals with a current topic of the week that affects the citizens of Bavaria. Discussions are no longer in a pub, but in a mobile studio.

Related broadcasts

In addition to Jetzt red i , Bayerischer Rundfunk had installed other similarly conceived citizen programs in its television program over the years. On the one hand, the European edition of Jetzt red i with the title Jetzt red i - Europe , which was thematically geared to Europe-wide problems in the EU . On the other hand, the citizens' forum live , the broadcast BR on the way and the Bavaria tour .

Moderation

Current moderators

The program is currently moderated by Tilmann Schöberl and Franziska Eder, who are both in the hall on site. Schöberl is responsible for discussions with local residents and politicians, while Eder follows the discussion on the topic on social networks. Until March 2016, Andreas Bönte took over the discussion with the politicians in the hall.

Former moderators

Until 2014, the program was split into two parts, as described above, namely the recorded “pub discourse” in the hall on site and the studio round with the invited politicians. Both parts were presented by different moderators.
