history

Most of the parishes were originally founded by the Territorial Abbey of Pannonhalma .

The deanery was founded by Bishop Stefan László as part of the reorganization of the deanery level after the second diocesan synod in 1970/71 for the larger Croatian communities in Central Burgenland . In Burgenland there are a total of around 30 parishes with Croatian and almost 10 parishes with bilingual pastoral care (as of 1995: 29/8). At the beginning it comprised 12 parishes, Vallunga as well as Groß- and Kleinmutschen are now branches.

In recent times there have been internal church excitements after the parish moderator of Großwarasdorf and Nebersdorf, Ivan Jelić OFM , was recalled, but there were local protests against it.
