The Roman Catholic parish church Nikitsch in the village of Nikitsch ( Croatian Filež , Hungarian Füles ) in the district of Oberpullendorf in Burgenland is consecrated to St. Laurentius and belongs to the Croatian deanery Großwarasdorf .

history

The church was an independent parish even before the Reformation . The current church was built in 1931 and 1932 according to plans by Karl Holey using older components. A restoration took place in 1972.

Architecture and equipment

A slender church tower rises above the south transept. A flat barrel vault arches over the broad nave. The apse is semicircular.

The furnishings come from the old parish church and were largely built between 1760 and 1770. The modern high altar picture, which shows St. Lawrence, is located between two Corinthian columns with cranked entablature. In the top there is a late Baroque image of St. Laurentius. The inner side figures represent the holy apostles Peter and Paul , outside above the sacrificial passage portals there are figures of Saints George and Martin .

The altarpiece on the left side altar shows St. Anna Maria teaching to read . In the tall tower there is a monogram of Mary in a halo. The side figures represent Saint Roch and Saint Rosalia . The retable shows Saint Anthony . The right side altar consists of a simple altar wall with a pediment on columns. The altarpiece shows the finding of the body of St. Sebastian .

The pulpit was built around 1800. On the four-sided basket there is a relief of the resurrection of Christ, on the curved sound cover the panels with the Ten Commandments are depicted. The font with a plastic group of Anabaptists was created like the large crucifix in the 18th century.

In the winter church , a separate mess chapel , there are two baroque figures of St. Anne and St. Joachim and two oil paintings from the 18th century depicting the coronation of Mary and St. Sebastian .
