The in Hungary located Archdiocese of Veszprém ( lat. : Archidioecesis Veszprimiensis ) was already in the year 1009 founded and counted 1,949 703,198 Catholics (80.4%) in 329 parishes with 440 diocesan priests and 183 religious priests .

On May 31, 1993, the new diocese of Kaposvár was established on part of his diocese and Veszprém was raised to the status of archbishopric and metropolitan seat for the dioceses of Szombathely and Kaposvár. Until then it was under the control of the Esztergom-Budapest Church Province .
