List of former Catholic dioceses

The list of the former Catholic dioceses contains all the abolished dioceses and their equivalent partial churches of the Roman Catholic Church , which consists of 23 rite churches , namely the Latin Church (also known as the Roman Church ) and 22 Uniate Churches .

The sorting takes place according to states and church provinces . immediate or exemte dioceses did not belong to any ecclesiastical province and were directly subordinate to the Pope .

The dioceses whose bishopric continues to exist as a titular bishopric are not included . These are included in the list of the Roman Catholic titular dioceses.
