Diocese of Mariana
The Mariana diocese ( lat . : Dioecesis Marianensis in Insula Corsica ) was a former Roman Catholic diocese located in Corsica . The bishopric was in Mariana .
history
The Mariana diocese was established around the year 300. The first bishop was Catonus Leo Corsicanus . On April 27, 1092, the Diocese of Mariana was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Pisa as a suffragan diocese by Pope Urban II with the Papal Bull Cum universis . The diocese of Mariana was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Genoa as a suffragan seat on March 19, 1133 by Pope Innocent II with the papal bull Iustus Dominus . In 1563 the diocese was united with the diocese of Accia to form the diocese of Accia and Mariana .
On November 29, 1801, the diocese of Accia and Mariana was dissolved by the Concordat of 1801 by Pope Pius VII with the papal bull Qui Christi Domini and the territory was annexed to the diocese of Ajaccio .
In 1747 the diocese of Accia and Mariana comprised about 18 parishes .
In April 2002, the Mariana diocese was re-established as the titular Mariana diocese in Corsica .
