Suffragan bishop

A suffragan or shortly Suffragan is the Bishop a diocese (a bishopric) corresponding to a metropolitan is assumed.

Roman Catholic Church

Suffragans are the diocesan bishops the suffragan , that is all to a church province associated (Metropolie) bishoprics, and, together with the Metropolitan which is itself a Erzbistum or Archdiocese said Bistum the church province as Archbishop protrudes, the College of this Church province. An archbishop can also be a suffragan bishop if his archdiocese is subordinate to another archdiocese.

Anglican Church

In the Anglican Church , the suffragan bishops are mostly regional bishops who, together with an (arch) bishop, lead a large diocese. The ecclesiastical provinces in the Church of England are headed by an archbishop or primate .
