The diocese of Ajaccio ( Latin : Dioecesis Adiacensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in France . The bishopric is in Ajaccio . Its territory has stretched across the entire island of Corsica since 1801 .
history
The diocese of Ajaccio was established in the 3rd century and subordinated to the archdiocese of Pisa as a suffragan . With the Concordat of 1801 , all other bishoprics of the island, Accia-Mariana and Nebbio from the ecclesiastical province of Genoa as well as Aléria and Sagone , also from the ecclesiastical province of Pisa , were incorporated into the diocese of Ajaccio and received the exemption . The diocese of Ajaccio lost this status again in 1860 and was assigned to the Archdiocese of Aix as a suffragan seat.
Since December 16, 2002, the diocese of Ajaccio is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Marseille .
