The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orléans ( Latin Dioecesis Aurelianensis , French Diocèse de Orléans ) is an in France situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Orléans .

history

The diocese of Orléans was established in the 3rd century and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Sens as a suffragan . On October 20, 1622, the diocese of Orléans was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Paris as a suffragan. The Diocese of Orléans were annexed to November 29, 1801 parts of the area of ​​the Diocese of Blois . On October 6, 1822, the diocese of Orléans gave parts of its territory to re-establish the diocese of Blois. On October 9, 1966, the Orléans diocese was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bourges as a suffragan. The diocese of Orléans was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tours as a suffragan on December 16, 2002 .

In November 2018, former local bishop André Fort was sentenced to an eight-month suspended sentence for covering up cases of abuse . The perpetrator, diocesan priest Pierre de Castelet, received a three-year prison sentence , of which he has to serve two years.
