The Archdiocese of Rennes , also Archdiocese of Rennes, Dol and Saint-Malo ( Latin Archidioecesis Rhedonensis (, Dolensis et Sancti Maclovii) ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in France with its seat in Rennes .
history
Rennes has been a bishopric since the 3rd century . In the Middle Ages , Rennes was the coronation site of the Dukes of Brittany . With the Concordat of 1801 , the dioceses of Dol and Saint-Malo were dissolved and largely added to the diocese of Rennes, which also became the legal successor. Since 1859 the diocese of Rennes has been in the rank of metropolitan diocese with initially three, since 2002 even eight suffragan seats .
The current bishop has been Pierre d'Ornellas since his appointment in 2007 .
