Ecclesiastical provinces and dioceses of continental France

The Roman Catholic Church in France , as in all larger countries, is divided into ecclesiastical provinces .

In mainland France there are currently 94 dioceses, a territorial prelature , an exarchate and two special ordinariates . Since December 8, 2002 , 91 dioceses and the one territorial prelature have been divided into 15 ecclesiastical provinces. Three dioceses are directly subordinate to the Holy See ( exemt ).

In the French overseas territories there are seven dioceses, which are assigned to three ecclesiastical provinces, and an exemtes diocese.
