The Cathedral of Créteil in the south-east of Paris in the department of Val-de-Marne located suburban Creteil is the Episcopal Church of the Diocese of Creteil . The building, completed in 2015, is dedicated to Our Lady of God (Notre-Dame) .

history

After the establishment of the Diocese of Créteil in 1966, the Saint-Louis-et-Saint-Nicolas church in Choisy-le-Roi , built by Ange-Jacques Gabriel in the middle of the 18th century, served as the episcopal church . The construction of the first cathedral in Créteil began in 1976; but this was not consecrated until eleven years later. In June 2010 the decision was made to build a new building; This was consecrated on September 20, 2015 by the then Parisian Archbishop André Vingt-Trois in the presence of the Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve .

architecture

The new building made of concrete, glass, sheet metal and curved glulam rafters consists of a low entrance hall with a flat roof and a sacred building consisting of two hemispherical shells; its semicircular interior design with a gallery resembles a theater or a lecture hall. The free-standing bell tower (clocher) with only one bell reaches a height of 25 m.
