The Eparchy of Saint Vladimir le Grand de Paris ( lat. : Eparchia Vladimiri Magni Parisiensis ) is in Western Europe located eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church , based in Paris .
history
In 1937 the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church established a mission station in Paris . Their home church became a chapel that was rebuilt for the Byzantine rite . The church was named after Prince Vladimir I (960-1015) of Kiev and on May 9, 1943 was named “St. Vladimir the Great ”. It was inaugurated by Auxiliary Bishop Emanuel-Anatole-Raphaël Chaptal de Chanteloup. The increasing number of mission members and believers in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church prompted Pope John XXIII. to found the Apostolic Exarchate France on July 22, 1960 with the Apostolic Constitution Aeterni Pastoris. The jurisdiction includes France , Belgium , Luxembourg , the Netherlands and Switzerland . The first exarchate and twelve priests made the first staffing. With the bishopric of the Apostolic Exarch in Paris, the church “St. Vladimir the Great “the rank of cathedral . Benedict XVI. elevated it to an eparchy on January 19, 2013.
