Hlib Boris Sviatoslav Lonchyna MSU ( Ukrainian : Гліб Лончи́на , Polish : Hlib Łonczyna ; born February 23, 1954 in Steubenville , USA ) is a Ukrainian Catholic clergyman and emeritus bishop of the Holy Family of London .

Life

Hlib Lonchyna studied at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome and graduated in Biblical Theology in 1979 . In 1975, he was in the monastery of Saint Theodore the Studite ( Grottaferrata , Italy the) Studite Brethren joined. On December 19, 1976, he took his religious vows . He was ordained a priest on July 3, 1977 by Grand Archbishop Jossyf Slipyj . He then worked as a pastor in Passaic (USA). In 1994, he became the spiritual director at the seminary in Lviv called same time he taught at the Ukrainian Catholic University and was a member of the Apostolic Nunciature in Kiev . In 2001 he completed additional training at the Pontifical Oriental Institute with a degree in "Eastern liturgical theology".

Archeparchy of Lviv

When he was appointed titular bishop of Bareta on January 11, 2002, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Lemberg . Cardinal Lubomyr Husar and the co-consecrators Archbishop Stephen Soroka and Bishop Julian Woronowskyj MSU initiated him on 27 February 2002 to the bishop. As Auxiliary Bishop, on January 14, 2003, he took on the task of Apostolic Visitator for the Ukrainian Greek Catholics in Italy , at the same time he was Procurator for the Grand Archbishopric of Kiev-Halych in Rome. On March 4, 2004, he was also appointed Apostolic Visitator for Spain and Ireland .

Grand Archbishopric of Kiev-Halych

On December 6, 2004 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the Grand Archbishopric of Kiev-Halych. Since March 25, 2006 he has been responsible full-time for the supervision of all religious orders in Ukraine . He was also an apostolic visitor to Italy, Spain and Ireland in a sideline position. He was released from his duties in Italy and Spain on January 7, 2009.

Apostolic Exarchate Great Britain / Eparchy Holy Family of London

On June 2, 2009, he assumed responsibility for the Exarchate of Great Britain as Apostolic Administrator . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 14, 2011 Apostolic Exarch of Great Britain, the inauguration was celebrated on August 2, 2011. He was previously co- consecrator of Wassyl Semenjuk as titular bishop of Castra Severiana (auxiliary bishop in Ternopil-Sboriw ) and Dimitrios Salachas as titular bishop of Carcabia (apostolic exarch of Greece). With the elevation to the eparchy on January 18, 2013 he was appointed bishop of the eparchy Holy Family of London .

On February 18, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy Saint Vladimir le Grand de Paris for the period of the Sedis vacancy .

On September 1, 2019, Pope Francis accepted his resignation from the office of Bishop of London and Apostolic Visitator for Ukrainian Catholics in Ireland.
