Passaic is a city in Passaic County , New Jersey , United States . Passaic belongs to the New York Metropolitan Area and is located about 20 km west of Manhattan . In the census of 2010 had a total population of 69,781 has been registered.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 8.3 km 2 , of which 8.1 km 2 is land and 0.3 km 2 (3.12%) is water. The Passaic River flows through the city.
Demographics
As of the 2000 census, there are 67,861 people, 19,458 households and 14,457 families in the city. The population density is 8,424.8 people per km 2 . 35.43% of the population are White, 13.83% African American , 0.78% Native American , 5.51% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 39.36% Other Ethnicity, and 5.04% Mixed Race . 62.46% are Latinos of any race .
Of the 19,458 households, 42.0% have children under the age of 18. 43.7% of them are married couples living together, 21.7% are single mothers, 25.7% are not families, 20.3% consist of single households and 8.4% are people over 65. The average household size is 3 , 46, the average family size 3.93.
