Shep Meyers
Shepard "Shep" Meyers (born October 5, 1936 in Passaic , New Jersey , † July 8, 2009 in San Diego ) was an American jazz pianist , composer and arranger .
Meyers first attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania , but dropped out to become a musician. After studying at the Manhattan School of Music , he worked in New York and Los Angeles as a musician, arranger, orchestra conductor and composer, a. a. with Coleman Hawkins , Art Pepper , Conte Candoli , Woody Herman , Johnny Carson , Peggy Lee , Terry Gibbs and Anita O'Day , as well as accompanying comedians Lenny Bruce , Steve Allen and Redd Foxx . Recordings were made with Ella Fitzgerald . He co-produced with Larry Rosen on Jon Lucien's 1973 album Rashida . He worked as an arranger for the Radio City Music Hall Symphony Orchestra . He also composed music for radio and TV commercials. In later years he performed locally as a pianist in the San Diego area, such as at Croce's Restaurant and Jazz Bar . Meyers released the album Cornerstone under his own name , u. a. with saxophonist Jay Migliori ; followed by the solo piano album Solo Thoughts .
