Marvin David Levy (born August 2, 1932 in Passaic , New Jersey , † February 9, 2015 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) was an American composer .

Levy studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City and New York University . He was instrumental in founding the Fort Lauderdale Opera , which he also directed. His opera Mourning Becomes Electra premiered in 1967 on the occasion of the reopening of the Metropolitan Opera in its new house.
