Ben Maddow

Ben Maddow (born August 7, 1909 in Passaic , New Jersey , † October 9, 1992 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

After graduating from Columbia University, Ben Maddow worked as a documentary filmmaker and co-founded a newsreel. After the Second World War , he also wrote screenplays for feature films. Due to his political stance, several of Maddow's scripts were uncredited during the McCarthy era . Occasionally he was able to incorporate documentary working methods into a feature film project, for example in the film drama Das cruusame Auge (The Savage Eye) . In addition to his work for the film, Maddow was also active as a writer and wrote several novels, plays, poems and short stories.

For his film The Cruel Eye , he was honored with Sidney Meyers and Joseph Strick at the British Academy Film Awards in 1960 with the Flaherty Documentary Award. Previously, he was at the Oscars in 1951 with John Huston for the Oscar in the category Best Original Screenplay been nominated. In addition, the two were nominated for the Golden Globe Award .
