Alan Rosenberg (born October 4, 1950 in Passaic , New Jersey ) is an American actor .

Life and accomplishments

Rosenberg, son of a musician, made his debut in the play Lost in Yonkers , which was performed on Broadway . He played his first television role in an episode of the television series Barnaby Jones from 1978. In the drama The Wanderers (1979) he starred alongside Karen Allen in a major role. In the film drama The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Martin Scorsese with Willem Dafoe in the leading role, he played the Apostle Thomas .

In the horror film After Midnight (1989), Rosenberg played a larger role alongside Marg Helgenberger , whom he married in 1989 after divorcing his first wife, actress Robin Bartlett . An appearance on the television series Emergency Room in 1994 earned him an Emmy nomination the next year . From 1995 to 1998 he played one of the two ex-men of the title character in the sitcom Cybill in 85 episodes . In the fantasy comedy Anna und der Geist (1998) Rosenberg played the late husband of Anna Hobson (Marg Helgenberger), whose ghost speaks to her. In Anne Heche's film Reaching Normal (2001) , he played one of the bigger roles alongside Ellen DeGeneres and Andie MacDowell . In the television series The Guardian - Savior with a Heart , he played one of the leading roles from 2001 to 2004. In 2005 and 2007, Rosenberg played again alongside Marg Helgenberger in 2 episodes of the television series CSI: On the trail of the perpetrators, the lawyer Adam Novak. In 2006 he had a guest role in the television series Dr. House . From 2016 to 2017 he was also seen in the recurring role of alcoholic mathematics professor Youens in the dramedy Shameless .

Rosenberg was elected President of the Screen Actors Guild in 2005 . He has a son with Marg Helgenberger.
