Cybill is an American sitcom that was produced by the broadcaster CBS from 1995 to 1998 and was tailored entirely to lead actress Cybill Shepherd . In Germany, the series was first broadcast on ProSieben from 1998 .
action
Cybill Sheridan is a moderately successful actress in her 40s who, because she never made the breakthrough, relies on making a living doing small, awkward roles in second-rate TV and commercial productions. She receives support above all from her best friend Maryann Thorpe, a hard-drinking millionaire's wife who is fighting a bitter guerrilla war with her ex-husband, the plastic surgeon "Dr. Dick ”, delivers.
In addition to trying to make it big in show business, Cybill mainly takes care of her family, consisting of her newlywed daughter Rachel, the cheeky Zoey and their two radically different ex-husbands, the stuntman Jeff (Rachel's father) and the former Lawyer and now successful writer Ira (father of Zoey) who are still an important part of her life.
background
Although the series was strongly based on the characteristics of typical American sitcoms and was never considered a pure remake , Cybill went through direct comparisons with the British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous over the course of the four seasons produced . In particular, the humor and living conditions of both protagonists showed similarities; the characters of the best friends even behaved almost identically.
In spite of this, or precisely because of it, Cybill developed into a passable success for the broadcaster CBS within the first season , which then put three more seasons into production. Although the audience numbers remained constant until 1998, the broadcaster decided to end the series abruptly after the 87th episode was broadcast. As Shepherd later explained, the decision was based on the context of the sitcom: CBS never really got used to the portrayal of female sexuality and feminist principles published by the series . The dismissal led to one of the weightiest unresolved cliffhangers in US television history.
occupation
The synchronization of the series was created at Arena Synchron from dialogue books and under the dialogue direction of Boris Tessmann .
