Richard D. Masur (born November 20, 1948 in New York City , New York ) is an American actor .

Life

Masur was born in New York City, his mother was a high school teacher , and his father was a pharmacist . Richard Masur attended Walt Whitman Junior High School and Roosevelt High School in Yonkers , and later studied acting at the Yale School of Drama .

Before he came to film, he appeared in the theater in the early 1970s . To date, he has had roles in over 30 television series and around 80 films. He became known to many through films such as Loose Business from 1983, Stephen King's It as the star of Stanley Uris and My Girl , where he played the brother of Harry Sultenfuss ( Dan Aykroyd ).

From 1995 to 1999 he was president of the Screen Actors Guild , an actors union, for two terms . Masur also sits on the corporate board of the Motion Picture & Television Fund in support of needy members of the film industry.

He is married and has a sister.
