Murderous advance (Original title: Shoot to Kill ) is an American thriller by the director Roger Spottiswoode from 1988.
action
FBI agent Warren Stantin is called to a hostage situation in San Francisco in connection with diamond theft. The robber shoots two hostages in front of Stantin's eyes and initially escapes with the prey.
When the killer shoots an innocent bystanders near the Canadian border, Stantin is able to get back on track. Obviously, the perpetrator has joined a group of leisure pioneers who, under the leadership of unsuspecting wilderness expert Sarah Renell, go on a multi-day excursion into the mountains.
The townspeople Stantin “recruited” the best available mountain guide Jonathan Knox, a nature man, against his will, to take up the chase. Before we leave, it turns out that he's Sarah Renell's boyfriend.
In the group of excursionists, the diamond robber very soon kills all participants except for the guide Renell, because he needs her to bring him to his destination, the Canadian border.
The two pursuers get into several life-threatening situations. While trying to cross a ravine, Knox almost crashes; Stantin saves his life by using all his strength by pulling him up out of the gorge with the help of the rope attached to Knox. A snowstorm demands everything from them, but ultimately overcoming it brings them together humanly. Shortly before they catch up with the murderer, he and the young woman as a hostage manage to escape across the border with Canada. The traces left by a break-in lead the two pursuers to Vancouver. Steve made an appointment with a dealer there to sell the diamonds. After a wild chase, he escapes again. The escape ends on a ferry. The policeman and the gangster wound each other with gunshots and fell into the sea. This time it is Jonathan who can save Stantin's life.

Reviews
“Roger Spottiswoode ('Under Fire') stages his films in a simple, straightforward manner and often with rough humor. Thanks to breathtaking locations and a cast trick, he succeeded in creating an above-average action thriller. "
"Spottiswoode thus keeps the promise of action cinema to transform emotions and conflicts into action itself."
"Mixture of crime and adventure film in a grandiose natural landscape, which combines different plot elements thanks to experienced staging and excellent photography into an extremely exciting entertainment film."
