Trapped in Eternal Ice - The Story of Dr. Jerri Nielsen ( Ice Bound ) is an American-Canadian drama series directed by Roger Spottiswoode in 2003 . The plot is based on the book "Ice Bound: A Doctor's Incredible Battle for Survival at the South Pole", which Dr. Jerri Nielsen wrote together with Maryanne Vollers.

action

Dr. Jerri Nielsen is dissatisfied with her life. She takes a job as a doctor at the polar station at the South Pole . There she befriends John Penny, in contrast to which she admits that she is fleeing from life.

One day Nielsen discovers a lump in her breast. The ward does not have any equipment that would allow cancer diagnosis. Somebody got the idea that one could send pictures of the tissue samples under a microscope through the Internet . Dr. Nielsen is the only one who can do a biopsy . After her helpers fail, she takes the tissue sample herself.

Medicines are dropped from an airplane. The station's crew members have to collect the containers within a few minutes to prevent the medication from freezing.

Dr. Nielsen undergoes chemotherapy . The tumor becomes a little smaller, but only slowly. The veins of Dr. Nielsen are in poor shape. The mainland doctors make the decision that she needs to be evacuated.

Nielsen says she is in no hurry to leave the station. Penny replies that she shouldn't run away from life.

The plane landing is considered difficult and a possible crash is expected. She succeeds anyway, the plane brings another doctor and takes Nielsen with it. A text in the credits announces that her breast will be amputated, but she will be cleared of cancer .
