... and life goes on (Original title: And the Band Played On ) is a documentary American television film from 1993 , which tells the story of AIDS from the early 1980s in the United States. It is based on the book of the same name by the journalist Randy Shilts .
action
The film describes the beginnings of the immunodeficiency disease AIDS from its discovery in 1981 up to 1993. Unlike the film made at the same time, Philadelphia deals with ... and life goes on with actual events, such as the conflict between idealistic and profit-oriented researchers ( Alan Alda in the role of an ambitious American with Nobel Prize ambitions).
In addition, personal fates like that of Dennis Seeley are taken up. The focus is on the virologist, played by Matthew Modine , Dr. Don Francis, who works at the US federal agency CDC .
criticism
“A captivating interim balance sheet, which takes up medical as well as political and social aspects of the problem in its storylines and provides information with facts and documentary materials as well as with individual fates. Only the sometimes clichéd drawing of some characters diminishes the value of the documentary feature film, which has been refined with many prominent guest appearances. "

In 1994, the TV movie was in the Golden Globes in the categories for Best Miniseries / TV movie Best and Matthew Modine as Best Actor in a Miniseries / TV Film nominated.
