Tchéky Karyo (born October 4, 1953 in Istanbul , Turkey ; actually Baruch Djaki Karyo ) is a Turkish- French actor .

Life

Karyo (1992)

The son of Jewish parents grew up in Paris . Karyo studied acting at the Théâtre Cyrano and became a member of the Compagnie Daniel Sorano. From there he moved to the National Theater in Strasbourg , where he began to learn Aikidō . Karyo has played in over 80 films since 1982, mostly in French productions. But he also made the leap to Hollywood , where he took on major supporting roles.

In 1983, Karyo was nominated for Best Young Actor at the César Film Awards for La Balance ( La Balance ) . In 1986 he received the Jean Gabin Prize . In 1990 he was honored as best actor at the Mystfest for Corps perdus - Lost Body and Luc Besson's Nikita . His role in Nikita as the trainer of the title character portrayed by Anne Parillaud made Karyo internationally known.

Tchéky Karyo was married to Isabelle Pasco from 1995 . The couple have two children and are now divorced.
