Bad Boys - Harte Jungs (Original title: Bad Boys ) is an action film by the American director Michael Bay from 1995 . The film was continued in 2003 by Bad Boys II , followed by Bad Boys for Life in 2020 . The spin-off series LA's Finest has been broadcast since 2019 .

action

Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are Drogenfahnder the police of Miami . They are partners and friends, but otherwise completely different types. While Marcus leads an orderly family life with his wife Theresa and his children in a quiet home, the daredevil Mike, who comes from a wealthy family, lives the life of a playboy .

The unlikely duo has just made the coup of their life and confiscated heroin with a market value of almost 100 million US dollars, which is already stolen from the evidence room. Mike and Marcus' supervisor, Captain Howard, is horrified and also gets into trouble from the internal investigative agency, which believes an insider made the break-in possible. Mike and Marcus are given 72 hours to solve the theft before the agency closes their department.

In fact, the French gangster Fouchet is responsible for the action, he got the information from a blackmailed department secretary. One of Fouchet's people secretly lets a drug package go with him in order to have a happening with the prostitute Max and her friend Julie. But Fouchet finds out and executes his traitor and Max. Julie is a witness but is able to escape. Since Max was a friend of Mike Lowrey, she turns to him in desperation.

However, since Mike is not present and they don't want to lose track of their drugs, Marcus impersonates Mike and wins Julie's trust - albeit without the knowledge of his family and Mike. The chaos becomes perfect when Mike arrives and now inevitably has to play Marcus' role as an honest family man.

The role reversal becomes difficult for Mike and Marcus over time - as well as for Theresa and the children and Julie, who has more and more doubts. When the vertigo is exposed, there is an exchange of fire with Fouchet's gangsters, who kidnap Julie. Mike and Marcus follow the attackers and arrive at an abandoned hangar at an airport. Here Fouchet wants to exchange the heroin for money at a Colombian drug dealer . Lowrey and Burnett storm the scenery, prevent the handover, kill some gangsters and free Julie. Fouchet escapes in a car, but the trio chases him in Mike's sports car. Fouchet has an accident and has to flee on foot. Mike then shoots him in the leg. Fouchet tries to shoot Marcus with a pistol while lying on the ground. Mike shoots Fouchet out of necessity.

Emergence

The film's script was initially called Bulletproof Hearts and was written by George Gallo . It was bought in 1986 by producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, who presented the film Paramount Pictures and Disney Pictures. However, they refused to cooperate. The main roles were to be cast with Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey . Ultimately, the film came to Disney, who in turn sold the script to Sony for $ 2 million. The film was not allowed to cost more than $ 15 million in production costs on Sony's instructions, so it became a low budget production.

When they also declined, the two producers had the script revised by Michael Barrie, Jim Mulholland and Doug Richardson (now Bad Boys ). The revised version with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the lead roles they presented to Columbia Pictures , who produced the film in 1995.

Remarks

  • Only Martin Lawrence was already scheduled for the film. Will Smith (previously better known from The Prince of Bel Air ) was hired for a low fee to give the film more depth and humor next to Lawrence (also due to the low budget). The film became a stepping stone to Will Smith's career as an international cinema star, especially thanks to the box office results in Europe (eight times the cost of production).
  • One scene in the film alludes to the film Passenger 57 with Wesley Snipes : “Wesley Snipes! Passenger 57! So, and now I would like to have my refreshment towel! "
  • Mike Lowrey's Porsche shown in the film is a Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6, Model 964 and in real life belongs to director Michael Bay. Fouchet's sports car, with which the Porsche competes in the final, is a Shelby Cobra with a V8 engine.
  • The film was approved for ages 18 and over until April 2015, after a re-examination by the FSK it was downgraded to 16.

The German synchronization of the film took over the former Magma Synchron GmbH in Munich , for a dialogue book and the dialogue director of Joachim Kunz village .

Reviews

“Fast-paced cop thriller, not a minute boring, which builds up a basically simple, clichéd buddy story with charm, puns and high-class stunts into a brilliant action adventure. The thoroughbred comedians Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have played a major role in the success of the company. They seize their chance across the board and recommend themselves as top action heroes for the next millennium. "

“Action comedy about two US comedy stars, which is supposed to combine hard thrill and wordy comedy with confusion. A failed attempt that reveals the dilemma of an entire genre of having to bridge a lot of action time between insanely fast action parts. "

“'Transformers' director Michael Bay is already having a blast in his debut, and there are extra cool sayings. Conclusion: No character thriller, but really cool action. "

“Bad Boys' is entertaining action cinema for an evening with little brain activity, but a lot of riot and explosions. Bought a few more six packs of beer, set up the poker table and the men's evening is perfect. "
