Wesley Snipes
Wesley Trent Snipes (born July 31, 1962 in Orlando , Florida ) is an American actor and film producer .
Life
Wesley Snipes grew up with his mother in New York's South Bronx . At the "High School for the Performing Arts" in New York he took the subjects dance, singing and acting. He later studied theater acting at the State University of New York .
Although he received a few supporting roles in films and series and participated in various stage plays on Broadway , for a long time he could not make a living from his profession as an actor, dancer and singer. It was only after a gangleader role in Bad , a music video by Michael Jackson , that he attracted national attention and shortly thereafter received a small role in the football film American Wildcats , where he also worked with Woody Harrelson for the first time . He was given a bigger role as the boxing talent Roland trained by Klaus Maria Brandauer in the film Streets of Gold (1986). This was followed by other supporting roles as a baseball player on the side of Charlie Sheen in The Indians of Cleveland or as a policeman in King of New York - King between day and night with Christopher Walken .
In the early 1990s, Snipes played the role of drug dealer Nino in New Jack City . He received good reviews alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Annabella Sciorra for Spike Lee's Jungle Fever . In 1990 he starred in the drama Mo Better Blues on the side of Denzel Washington. His commercial breakthrough came in 1992 with the basketball film White Boys Don't Bring It (again with Woody Harrelson), in which he has to deal with money problems, and with the action thriller Passenger 57 .
Since On the Hunt , however, apart from Blade and its sequels, he has not had a notable hit. In To Wong Foo, thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar , he took on the role of a drag queen . In the 2000s, Snipes was primarily seen in direct-to-DVD productions and has been making films since then.
In 1997 he was awarded the Coppa Volpi , the actor's award at the Venice Film Festival , for his acting performance in the film One Night Stand .
On October 12, 2006, Snipes was charged with tax fraud. He initially evaded the warrant, but was arrested on December 8, 2006 in Florida; he could face up to 16 years in prison. He is said to have paid far too low income tax from 1999 to 2004 and also sneaked almost twelve million US dollars in repayments through false information. On April 24, 2008, Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison for tax fraud. After Snipes appealed, he was initially released on bail.
Finally, on July 16, 2010, an Atlanta appeals court rejected his appeal against the lower court judgment, whereupon Snipes appealed to the United States Supreme Court . Snipes' application to live freely pending his decision was rejected by a district court in Ocala on December 1, 2010 and ruled that he would be sent to prison on December 9 of the same year. Snipes started his sentence on time at McKean Federal Prison in northwestern Pennsylvania. The Supreme Court ruled on June 6, 2011, not to deal with the case. Snipes was ultimately released from prison on April 2, 2013, to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until July 19, 2013 .
In 2013, at the request of action icon Sylvester Stallone, he was offered a role in the third part of the Expendables trilogy, which he accepted. Several film and television roles followed. His work includes more than 60 film and television productions.
Snipes had a brief relationship with Oscar winner Halle Berry . He practices martial arts and wears u. a. the fifth dan (Godan) in Shōtōkan karate. He has been married to the painter Nakyung "Nikki" Park for the second time since 2003 and is the father of a total of five children (four sons and one daughter).
