Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was, along with Absolute Power and The Conspiracy in the Shadows, one of three films that were released within a short time and dealt with conspiracy theories . The film is no worse than the other two, but it is particularly “preposterous”. Berardinelli also criticized that the film contained nothing new.
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of April 18, 1997 that the film was well made over long stretches, the characters were "lively" ("vivid"), numerous scenes were "realistic", and some dialogues had a touch of irony . However, he criticized the film as being too much of an action film in the end.
"When Wesley Snipes, as a cop with integrity, with the help of tough Diane Lane as security agent [...] scrapes out the dirt behind the facade of the White House and prevents a state crisis at the last second, that is not excitingly new, but it succeeds with a rarity : a film whose story remains exciting even without a lot of action riot. "
“Police thriller that is content with routinely setting the mechanisms of the genre in motion. Short-breathed allusions to current contexts fizzle out without any substantive echo. "
