life and career

The daughter of acting teacher Burton Lane and nightclub dancer Colleen Farrington, Diane Lane became familiar with acting at an early age. She first appeared on stage at the age of six, and at the age of 13 she was cast in 1978 by director George Roy Hill in his film I Love You - I Love You - Je t'aime alongside Laurence Olivier . For this she won the Youth in Film Award for best leading actress in a feature film .

A period of appearances in relatively unsuccessful television and feature films followed before Francis Ford Coppola cast her in The Outsider and Rumble Fish in the early 1980s . In 1984 she played a starring role in the later cult film ripened rock opera Streets of Fire and in Cotton Club . This was followed by expensive Hollywood productions , which mostly flopped, so that she finally withdrew from the film business for three years. In the years that followed, Lane made a name for itself in smaller, ambitious productions. In 1995 she starred opposite Sylvester Stallone in the comic book adaptation Judge Dredd , opposite Robin Williams in Jack (1996) and with Wesley Snipes in Murder at the White House (1997). 2000 followed the female lead in The Tempest alongside George Clooney . In 2002 she had her final breakthrough as an actress. The portrayal of Richard Gere's cheating wife in the relationship drama Unfaithful brought her numerous awards for best actress as well as a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination .

From 1988 to 1994 Lane was married to her fellow actor Christopher Lambert , with whom she has a daughter. From 2004 she was married to Josh Brolin , the son of James Brolin and stepson of Barbra Streisand . In February 2013, the couple announced the split.
