Josh James Brolin (born February 12, 1968 in Los Angeles ) is an American actor , film producer and director .

Life

The son of actor James Brolin and his first wife, Brolin grew up in California.

As an actor, he first drew attention to himself in Steven Spielberg's The Goonies (1985). In the following decades he played numerous roles and stepped more and more out of the shadow of his father. He had leading roles in, among others, Hollow Man - Invisible Danger (2000) and Melinda and Melinda (2004). In 2007 Brolin was seen in the Oscar-winning film No Country for Old Men and in Im Tal von Elah in the cinema. In 2009 he received his first Oscar nomination for the role of the killer of Harvey Milk (played by Sean Penn ) in Gus Van Sant's biopic Milk (2008) . In 2010 he played the lead role in the Jonah Hex comic film adaptation, John Malkovich his opponent. In the same year he played the role of the murderer Tom Chaney in the western True Grit , directed by Ethan and Joel Coen . In 2012 he starred as young Agent K in Men in Black 3, alongside Will Smith . In April 2012 he got the role of Joe Douchett in the Spike Lee- produced US remake of the South Korean thriller Oldboy by Park Chan-wook . Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For , the sequel to Sin City , hit theaters in September 2014, starring Brolin in the role of Dwight McCarthy . In 2015, the drug drama Sicario followed , in which he played the role of Matt Grave.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe , he first took on the role of the galactic conqueror Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 . He was again in Avengers: Age of Ultron the following year, albeit not performed . He also took on the role of the movie villain in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame .

Brolin was spoken by various voice actors in German. While Axel Malzacher (Flirting with Disaster, Freeze) gave him the voice in earlier films , since American Gangster Klaus-Dieter Klebsch has regularly taken over the dubbing.

Private

From 1988 to 1992 Brolin was married to actress Alice Adair, with whom he has two children. From 1998 to 2001 he was in a relationship with fellow actress Minnie Driver . In 2004 he married his fellow actress Diane Lane . The couple announced their separation in February 2013, the divorce took place on November 27, 2013. Josh Brolin has been married to his former assistant and model Kathryn Boyd since 2016.
