The Hollywood Conspiracy (Original title: Hollywoodland ) is an American film drama by the director Allen Coulter from 2006 , which is to be assigned to the genre of Neo-Noir .

action

Louis Simo, a fictional detective, investigates the historically real death of actor George Reeves , who was successful in the 1950s through the television series Adventures of Superman , in which he played the title role. The scenes of the investigation are shown alternately with flashbacks that trace the life of Reeves.

Toni Mannix, the wife of studio boss Eddie Mannix , had an affair with Reeves. She made him expensive gifts like a clock with the text Mad About the Boy engraved on it . Reeves ended the relationship with Toni and began a relationship with Leonore Lemmon. Shortly before his wedding to Leonore, George Reeves is found dead in his bedroom. It is believed that he committed suicide.

Detective Simo discovers inconsistencies and publicly doubts the official version of his death. He suspects, among others, the fiancée Leonore, the studio boss Eddie Mannix and George's ex-lover Toni of having committed the murder of George, or to have caused it.

In the end, Simo realizes that Reeves killed himself due to his lack of success. However, this is not resolved.
