Liberty Stands Still (alternative title: Liberty Stands Still - In the Visor of the Murderer ) is a Canadian - German thriller by Kari Skogland from 2002 .

Liberty Wallace is a top executive at a gun manufacturing company. She is married to Victor Wallace, who is her business partner.

Liberty Wallace walks through a park to meet her lover. Suddenly she sees the spot of light from a weapon laser sight on her chest. Joe, whose daughter died in a shooting, calls her on her cell phone. He tells her he left a bomb at a hot dog stand nearby. Wallace has to handcuff himself to the booth with the handcuffs ready.

A young reporter, whom Joe notified, appears at the scene. He talks to Wallace and is shot by Joe. Joe then tells the woman that the reporter's father is a politician who works for the gun lobby .

Joe talks to Wallace about the gun issue. She reveals the names of the corrupt politicians who are bribed by her company, which Joe records and later broadcasts to the media. Meanwhile, Victor Wallace tries to help his wife. He comes to the crime scene where he is shot by Joe.

Joe tells Liberty where he hid the key to the handcuffs. He deactivates the bomb and shoots himself just before the police find him.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a "fast-paced" "two-person piece" that "convincing leading actors" would wear. He takes "current (...) American tragedies as an opportunity to draw attention to irregularities in the law in the USA" , but counteracts "the serious concern with flippant dialogues" .
