Oliver James Platt (born January 12, 1960 in Windsor , Ontario ) is a Canadian actor .

Life and accomplishments

Oliver Platt, son of a diplomat , grew up in Washington, DC and in Asia . In 1983 he graduated from Tufts University with an acting degree . Platt starred in television series in the late 1980s . In 1988 he starred alongside Alec Baldwin and Michelle Pfeiffer in a supporting role in the comedy The Mafiosi Bride by Jonathan Demme . In the same year he also appeared in the comedy Die Waffen der Frauen in the role of Bob Lutz , a colleague of Tess McGill , who was played by Melanie Griffith . In the thriller Flatliners - Today is a beautiful day to die (1990) he played alongside Julia Roberts , Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon the student Randy Steckle , who experiments with near-death experiences . In An Immoral Offer (1993), he impersonated attorney Jeremy , who spelled out the agreement between John Gage ( Robert Redford ), Diana Murphy ( Demi Moore ) and David Murphy ( Woody Harrelson ).

For his role in the comedy Dr. Dolittle (1998) was nominated for a 1999 Blockbuster Entertainment Award to Platt . From 2000 to 2001 he was seen in a leading role in the television series Deadline . In 2001, he was recognized for his role in the television series The West Wing - the center of power for the Emmy Award nominated. For his role in the television series Huff - Reif für die Couch (2004), he was nominated for an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award in 2005.
