Good Wife (Original title: The Good Wife ) is an American drama series that aired between September 22, 2009 and May 8, 2016 on CBS . The series is partly inspired by the scandal surrounding the US politician Eliot Spitzer , who had to resign because of his dealings with exclusive prostitutes . In Germany, ProSieben broadcast the first season from March 31, 2010. Because the ratings were too low, the second season was shown on Kabel Eins from March 11, 2011 .

The broadcast of the seventh and final season began on October 4, 2015 in the US, the series finale aired on May 8, 2016. In Germany, the last season was broadcast from January 10, 2017 by the pay TV broadcaster Fox .

action

The focus of the series is Alicia Florrick, the wife of Peter Florrick, the former State's Attorney of Chicago . He is serving a long prison sentence for misappropriating public funds and accepting benefits (in the form of sexual services from prostitutes ). His wife Alicia is returning to her old job as a lawyer and thus securing a livelihood for herself and her two teenage children.

As a newcomer to a law firm, she first has to find her way back to the legal profession after 13 years and assert herself against her competitor Cary Agos. In private and in public, she has to defend herself against accusations and prejudices regarding her husband. In addition, her former college friend Will Gardner, who is also a co-owner of the law firm she works for, develops a private interest in her. Meanwhile, research has made it increasingly clear that her husband was the victim of a political plot . First of all, it can be achieved through legal means that Peter is released from prison under conditions, including wearing an ankle bracelet .

The case against Peter Florrick will eventually be tried again. With new evidence and a clever defense, allegations of embezzlement and embezzlement as well as influencing judicial proceedings can be refuted. Rehabilitated as a person , Peter plans to make his political comeback - but not without first getting his wife's support. Due to her feelings for Will Gardner, however, this comes under pressure at the public announcement of Peter's renewed candidacy for the office of State's Attorney. For now, however, she decides to stay with her husband and support him in the election campaign. Shortly after Peter reached his destination, she found out about his one-night stand with her friend Kalinda. She then breaks up with him and gets closer to Gardner at the end of the second season.

In addition to the relationship problems that extend over the first and second seasons, each episode describes legal processes in the areas of criminal and civil law. Furthermore, the internal processes, in particular the company policy and the relationships between the people involved, take up a lot of space. In particular, the bankruptcy of the Lockhart / Gardner law firm and the temporary control by an insolvency administrator are causing tension. Peter Florrick is running for Illinois governor . In particular because of his wife, who is very popular with voters, he wins the election by a large margin. It turns out that Peter's election officials rigged the election. Peter can save himself for the time being through clever maneuvers of both a political and a legal nature. A compromising video that was leaked to Will Gardner prior to the election is of particular importance. This initially keeps the recordings secret.

Alicia Florrick founds her own law firm with Cary Agos and other colleagues, which she uses to turn Gardner and Lockhart against her. Gardner in particular feels betrayed. In the middle of the fifth season, the events of Peter Florrick come to a head. A charge of electoral fraud seems increasingly likely. Shortly afterwards, Gardner's client, who was accused of murder, loses his temper in court and shoots around with the gun he stole from a sheriff. Gardner is fatally hit. Alicia mourns long and deep and separates from her husband. However, both want to preserve the appearance of an intact marriage, as this is professionally and politically beneficial for both.

In season six, Cary Agos is accused of helping his client Bishop smuggle heroin. After Kalinda forges evidence, Cary is acquitted. Meanwhile, Alicia's former boss, Diane Lockhart, joins Alicia and Cary's law firm. Alicia runs for prosecutor and wins the election, but is forced to resign when she is accused of electoral fraud. Assistant prosecutor Geneva Pine finds out that Kalinda falsified evidence to obtain an acquittal for Cary Agos. Pine forces Kalinda to gather evidence against drug dealer Bishop. When Bishop is arrested and he suspects Kalinda to be a mole, she has to flee.

After her resignation as a public prosecutor, Alicia starts her own business with the lawyer Lucca Quinn. Since Kalinda is on the run, they work with private detective Jason Crouse, with whom Alicia begins an affair. After Peter Florrick ran unsuccessfully for the office of US Vice President, he will be investigated again for corruption in the second part of the season. He has to resign and agrees to divorce Alicia.

Germany

In Germany, ProSieben broadcast the first season in German for the first time between March 31 and October 6, 2010. Despite the good supporting program, the ratings were consistently below the ProSieben average.

The second season was shown from March 11 to August 19, 2011 on Kabel Eins , as the ratings on ProSieben were too low to be broadcast again. After four episodes had been broadcast, it was decided that Good Wife would start on April 29 later in the evening due to weak, albeit more stable, ratings with a market share of between 4.2 and 4.8 percent and thus below the Kabel-one channel average and will no longer run in prime time . On average, the ratings for the second season remained poor with 0.35 million viewers (4.2 percent) of the advertising-relevant target group and 0.56 million (3.0 percent) of the total audience. After the first season on ProSieben and the second on Kabel Eins could not keep the respective channel cut, further broadcasting on one of these channels was considered unsafe.

As a result, the third season between December 11, 2012, and April 9, 2013, the Pay TV transmitter FOX broadcast. The broadcaster sixx showed the season on free TV from February 4, 2014. Between January 28, 2014 and April 8, 2014, the fourth season was broadcast in double episodes on FOX. The fifth season started on January 6, 2015 at both FOX and sixx. In Germany, the sixth season ran from January 19 to March 29, 2016 on Fox and since April 11, 2016 on sixx. The seventh season ran on pay TV channel Fox and is available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
