Joseph Thomas "Joe" Morton Jr. (born October 18, 1947 in Harlem , New York ) is an American actor .

Life

Joe Morton's parents are Evelyn and Joseph Thomas Morton Sr. He grew up in the USA, Germany and Okinawa , as his father served part of his service time in those countries as an employee of the secret service. Joe Morton graduated from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York with a degree in acting . He has been married to Nora Chavooshian for the second time since October 1984 and has two daughters and a son.

Theater, film and television

Morton made his Broadway debut in Hair and was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in the musical Raisin . He made his first television appearance in 1970 in an episode of Cobra, Take Over . He made his debut in a Hollywood production in 1979 in ... and Justice for All .

To date, Morton has appeared in around 100 television productions and films, with his roles in Challenger (1990), Terminator 2 - Day of Reckoning (1991), Speed (1994), The Astronaut's Wife - Evil Has a New Face (1999), Shadow of Truth (2000), The Night Listener (2006) and Badland (2007) are among the better known.

In 2008, American Gangster (2007), in which Morton played a supporting role, was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award (Best Acting Company). His current film projects are La Linea with Ray Liotta and Andy García, among others, and the comedy Wherever You Are (both 2008).

Morton played guest roles in television series such as Law & Order , Smallville , Dr. House , M * A * S * H , JAG - On behalf of Honor , E-Ring - Military Minds , Boston Legal and a few more. From 2006 to the end of the series in 2012, he was part of the regular cast of the science fiction series Eureka - The Secret City . From 2013 to 2018 Morton played a supporting role as Rowan "Eli" Pope in the ABC series Scandal , for which he won the Emmy for Best Guest Actor in 2014 .

In addition to his acting activities, Morton works as a producer and director as well as a songwriter and musician. In Blues Brothers 2000 he played three songs - "John The Revelator", "Funky Nassau" and "Turn On Your Love Light" - and wrote the theme song for Badland .
