Archana "Archie" Panjabi (born May 31, 1972 in Edgware , London ) is a British actress of Indian descent, who was best known for the role of Kalinda Sharma in the television series Good Wife .

life and career

Panjabi's parents Govind and Padma Panjabi are from India; she grew up in England . In 1996 she graduated from Brunel University in West London with a degree in management . At the age of 26 she married the tailor Rajesh Nihalani.

Punjabi began her acting career in 1995 with the television film Under the Moon . Then she was mostly seen in television roles, including in the film At the Beginning (2000). In 2002 she became known to a larger audience for the first time through her role as Pinky Bhamra in the hit Kick it like Beckham alongside Keira Knightley and Parminder Nagra . For her role in the immigrant drama Yasmin , she was named Shooting Star at the Berlinale 2005 .

2006 saw Panjabi in her first Hollywood role as a British diplomat in the Oscar-winning film The Eternal Gardener . In 2007, she starred opposite Angelina Jolie in the drama A Courageous Path . It is the film adaptation of the book by Mariane Pearl, widow of the murdered journalist Daniel Pearl . For her portrayal of former Wall Street Journal reporter Asra Nomani , she was named Best Actress at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival .

From 2009 to 2015 she played the investigator Kalinda Sharma in the television series Good Wife at the side of Julianna Margulies . For her performance, she received an award for best supporting actress in a drama series at the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards .

In 2013 and 2014 she appeared as forensic doctor Tanja Reed-Smith in two seasons of the BBC Two crime series The Fall - Death in Belfast .
