Parminder Kaur Nagra (born October 5, 1975 in Leicester , Leicestershire ) is a British actress of Indian descent.

life and career

Parminder Nagra's parents came to England in the 1960s . She is fluent in Punjabi .

Nagra became known in 2002 for her lead role as Jesminder "Jess" Kaur Bhamra in Kick it like Beckham , in which she played an Indian footballer alongside Keira Knightley and Jonathan Rhys Meyers . In 2003, she joined the main cast of the US - television series ER - Emergency Room at where it until the series end of 2009, the doctor Neela Rasgotra embodied. In 2012, she played tech Lucy Banerjee in the short-lived mystery series Alcatraz . From September 2013 to May 2014 she starred alongside James Spader and Megan Boone as Meera Malik in a leading role on the NBC series The Blacklist .

In January 2009, Nagra married her partner, photographer James Stenson, with whom she had been together for seven years. Nagra and Stenson became parents of a son in May 2009. She filed for divorce in February 2012.
