WonderCon is an annual comic , science fiction , and feature film event that took place in the San Francisco Bay area from 1987 to 2011 and has since been held in Anaheim , California under the name WonderCon Anaheim .

history

Small traders Joe Field and Mike Friedrich owned and ran the convention for fifteen years. In 2001 they signed a contract with the owners of the San Diego Comic-Con International to tie the WonderCon to the family of the Comic-Con-International-Conventions. As a result, WonderCon gained greater popularity and became a major promoter for feature films based on comics, including Spider-Man 2 in 2004, Batman Begins and Fantastic Four in 2005, Superman Returns in 2006, 300 in 2007, Watchmen in 2009 and Kick-Ass 2010. The cast of the films were involved in each of these events, answering questions from the audience.

The number of visitors to WonderCon is increasing every year; In 2009 34,000, 2010 39,000 and 2010 49,500 visitors took part.

In 2012, the convention moved to Anaheim as the Moscone Center , where the convention was previously held, was being renovated. There the WonderCon got its current name WonderCon Anaheim .

Offers and events

The main attraction of WonderCon has long been the sale of comic books and action figures. However, the offers have been expanded over time and now also include the sale of DVDs. Another offer is the so-called "Artist Alley", where mainly comic books and images are signed by various authors and sketches are drawn.

The WonderCon held from 1997 to 1999 the Harvey Award -Zeremonien. Since 2007 academics and members of the comic book industry have held the Comic Arts Conference in conjunction with WonderCon .

WonderCon also offers the so-called "Trailer Park" event, where trailers for upcoming feature films are shown.

At the end of the convention, you can take part in the “WonderCon masquerade”. The participants with the most creative appearances win prizes.
