history

BBC Two was introduced in 1964 as a transmitter in the European 625-line standard (in the English version Norm I) in the UHF range; the first program at that time could only be received in the pre-war standard with 405 lines in the VHF range. After trial broadcasts on NTSC , the decision was made to use PAL , which originated in Germany - since July 1, 1967, BBC 2 has been broadcasting in color, making it the first television station in Europe to officially broadcast its programs in color .

Reception in Germany

The television station can be received in the west and south-west of Germany via the satellites Astra 2E and Astra 2G at 28.2 ° East. Previously they broadcast on Astra 1N and Astra 2D , but this has reached the end of its life. Astra 1N was moved from Astra 2E to 19.2 East after successful commissioning. Astra 2E and 2G can only be received in the west and south-west of Germany with normal effort (60 to 80 cm satellite dish). Some of the programs are also broadcast on the pay-TV channel BBC Entertainment , which is included in the pay-TV packages of various cable network operators .
