BBC Three was a British public television broadcaster of the BBC , which had existed in this form since 2004 and which has been operated purely as an Internet service since February 16, 2016. Its predecessor was called BBC Choice , which existed from 1998 to 2003. The market share in February 2008 at airtime was 2.7% in the UK.

The program was broadcast from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. (GMT), the other time the channel was used by the sister program CBBC . A special news format of exactly one minute ( 60 seconds ) was developed by BBC News in order to be able to largely automate broadcasting operations regardless of the length of regular news.

In March 2014, the BBC announced that the BBC Three television channel would be discontinued in the fall of 2015. TV series such as B. Being Human or Torchwood should only be shown online as a stream in the future.

target group

The program was primarily aimed at the 16-34 age group and often broadcast reruns of BBC One and BBC Two programs.

Reception in Germany

The television station could be received in western Germany via the Astra 2E satellite at 28.2 ° East. A notice is currently being broadcast there that BBC 3 will only continue to be operated online.
