The Mighty Boosh is a British comedy group led by comedians Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding . The Mighty Boosh is best known for her television show of the same name, in which Barratt and Fielding play the characters Howard Moon and Vince Noir , who experience numerous psychedelic adventures.

history

After Barratt and Fielding met through stand-up comedy , they formed the group. In 1998 they appeared on the sketch comedy show Unnatural Acts , where they worked with Rich Fulcher and Richard Ayoade , who became part of the ensemble. Other members were comedian Dave Brown and Fielding's brother Michael.

The Mighty Boosh initially developed three plays , The Mighty Boosh (1998), Arctic Boosh (1999) and Autoboosh, and in 2001 the six-part BBC radio show The Boosh . Due to the great success of the plays and radio plays, the television series was realized from 2004, which has now achieved cult status in the United Kingdom . The previous three seasons have been broadcast on the British broadcaster BBC Three . A fourth season has not yet been planned, but Fielding said in 2012 that a film project was being planned. The program has not yet been broadcast in Germany.

Many members of The Mighty Boosh have appeared in other British comedy series, including Nathan Barley , Snuff Box and Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy .

In 2006 the group returned to the theater stage with The Mighty Boosh Live and toured England; The Future Sailors Tour followed in 2008 .

Television broadcast

In the three seasons, the locations and in some cases the cast change. For example, the first season takes place in a zoo, where the main characters Howard and Vince work as guards. The second season takes place in the shared flat of the two, and they try their luck as musicians. In the third season, the two employees are in a bizarre second-hand shop. The tone and humor of the individual episodes and seasons vary greatly, from childish and silly to surreal to dark, nightmarish and sometimes almost disturbing.

All episodes were scripted by Barrat and Fielding and directed by Paul King .

season 1

The plot of the first season follows the two friends Vince Noir and Howard Moon as keepers in the zoo "Zooniverse". More or less absurd and surreal incidents endanger the two of them, the zoo or the animals in every episode. Often condemned by the insane zoo director Bob Fossil (Fulcher) to do so, Vince and Howard must solve the problem of what leads them to places like the arctic tundra or limbo .

season 2

Vince and Howard share an apartment in Dalston, London with the alien shaman Naboo (Michael Fielding) and the gorilla Bollo (Brown), both supporting characters from the first season. The plot follows the four of them as they leave London with their van one by one, and encounter strange monsters and characters in surreal surroundings (such as Naboo's home planet Xooberon).

season 3

Vince, Howard, Naboo and Bollo are still in Dalston. Vince and Howard are now working in Naboo's second-hand shop "Nabootique". While Naboo and Bollo are mostly out and about, for example to play as DJs or on a magic carpet on vacation, responsibility for the store is transferred to Vince and Howard. Most of the time this ends up with Vince and Howard getting into nightmarish or dangerous situations again and Naboo and Bollo having to help them out of their misery.
