Paul King (director)

Paul Thomas King (* 1978 ) is a British screenwriter and director . He works for film , television and theater , specializing particularly in comedy .

King graduated from the St Catherine's College of the University of Cambridge in 1999. During his time at university, he met Richard Ayoade , Matthew Holness and Alice Lowe know. King worked as Associative Director on the British television series Garth Marenghi's Darkplace , which aired on Channel 4 for six years . In 2002, King received a second Perrier Award for directing the Noel Fielding 's Edinburgh Festival show .

Paul King also directed The Mighty Boosh . He directed all three series, for which he was nominated for the BAFTA in 2004. King was originally appointed to direct the first series because director Steve Bendelack was unable to do so at the time. He was also the director of the successful mockumentary Come Fly with Me . King wrote the first screenplay for a feature film , Bunny and the Bull , which he directed again in 2009 . The cast consists of Simon Farnaby and Edward Hogg , with guest appearances by Noel Fielding , Richard Ayoade and Julian Barratt .

In 2014 he directed the film Paddington (2014) with Nicole Kidman in the lead role. The sequel, Paddington 2 , followed in 2017, also directed by King.
