action
A young, talking bear lives with his aunt Lucy and his uncle Pastuzo in Peru . The small family is very Anglophile , as his aunt and uncle met an English researcher named Montgomery Clyde many years ago. After an earthquake made her living conditions worse and his uncle dies, the aunt smuggles him onto a ship going to England. She trusts in the friendliness of strangers and sends the little bear with a sign that says “Please take care of this bear. Thank you ”on the long journey. The film explicitly refers to the experience of Londoners with the Kindertransport , in which around 10,000 Jewish children were taken into families between 1938 and 1939 .
When the little bear arrives at Paddington train station in London , he quickly realizes that city life is not what he imagined. Nobody seems to notice him in the noisy, busy metropolis. After all, he is lucky enough to be found and taken in by the Brown family, who for the sake of simplicity call him “Paddington” after where he was found. Now the bear goes in search of the only person he knows in London - the researcher who had impressed his aunt Lucy many years earlier. Among other things, he is helped by Mr. Gruber, a German Jew who came to England as a child.
Soon, however, Paddington is in danger as taxidermist Millicent Clyde targets the rare bear. The explorer, her father, was once ridiculed and humiliated for not hunting the talking bears, as that would have made his family rich. His daughter therefore vowed to kill one of them and exhibit them stuffed. She conspires with Mister Curry, the Browns' suspicious neighbor. A first attempt on Paddington fails, but the ensuing chaos leads the Browns to decide not to be able to keep the bear with them. He then looks for Montgomery Clyde himself and falls into Millicent's hands. When Mister Curry realizes what she is planning, he alerts the Browns, who have long since bitterly regretted their decision. Millicent can only barely be prevented from harming the bear because the Browns are helping him. You take in Paddington and are a real family now.
