Geoffrey Palmer (2008)

Geoffrey Dyson Palmer , OBE (born June 4, 1927 in London - † November 5, 2020 in Buckinghamshire ) was a British actor in theater, film and television.

life and career

Palmer began his career in the theater , serving as assistant stage manager and actor. After a leading role in John James Osborne's West of Suez at the Royal Court Theater, he worked in other large productions at the Royal Court and the Royal National Theater .

Palmer was a regular in front of the camera from the mid-1950s to old age and played many high-profile roles in sitcoms such as The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin , especially on British television . He played his best-known television role alongside Judi Dench in the series As Time Goes By , which was made between 1992 and 2005. He and Dench star in a former couple who unexpectedly meet again after almost 40 years. In many of his comedy roles, he stands out for his emphatically subtle and unshakable facial expression in the strangest of situations. Palmer was married to Sally Green from 1963; the couple has two children. In 2004 he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the British royal family . He died in November 2020 at the age of 93.
