Michael Gambon
Sir Michael John Gambon CBE (born October 19, 1940 in Dublin ) is an Irish - British actor .
Life
Gambon's career began in Dublin in 1963 at the Edwards-MacLiammoir Gate Theater . Under Sir Laurence Olivier , he was a member of the National Theater Company's original cast at the Old Vic . He has starred in many plays written by Alan Ayckbourn . Gambon later went to Birmingham , where he played the title role in Othello . In the following four decades, Gambon established himself as one of the greatest theater actors of his time.
Gambon almost became a James Bond actor too , as the show's producers tested him for the role. However, it was rejected because those responsible did not want to cast an "unknown" actor again for this role after George Lazenby . From 1992 to 1993 he impersonated Commissioner Maigret in twelve episodes of a British television series .
From the third film in the Harry Potter series onwards, Michael Gambon played the school principal Albus Dumbledore . The role was cast in the first two films with Richard Harris , who died after a serious illness on October 25, 2002, so that a new cast was necessary.
Michael Gambon is less well known as a movie actor, but on stage he is one of Britain's most notable character actors. He is originally from Dublin and is (like Richard Harris) of Irish descent. As a tribute to his deceased colleague, he speaks Professor Dumbledore in the original with an Irish accent. The voice actor for the German-speaking area was first Klaus Höhne , from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix then Wolfgang Hess .
Gambon is also a British citizen. He was beaten to a Knight Bachelor degree by Queen Elizabeth II in 1992 and is therefore allowed to call himself Sir .
Gambon has a hobby of collecting antique weapons. He also has a pilot's license and his own aircraft.
