occupation

The Star of India (Original title: Viceroy's House ) is a historical film drama about the independence of India and the establishment of the state of Pakistan . The cinema release in Germany was on August 10, 2017.

action

The last Vice-King of India, Lord Mountbatten , is to lead British India to independence. This task proves to be very difficult because of the completely different ideas and claims to power of Hindus - represented by Jawaharlal Nehru - and Muslims - represented by Mohammed Ali Jinnah . Shortly after independence, millions of people had to flee for religious reasons. The love story of Jeet and Aalia, who belong to different religions, is woven into the political processes.

criticism

The film service wrote that the "epic historical film" reconstructs the "complex political upheavals historically accurate" and makes them emotionally "accessible". Although "some of the escalation sometimes turns out to be too melodramatic", the "mass escape scenes are an impressive reminder of current developments".
