life and career

actress

Gillian Anderson (2004)

Prior to her career as a series actress, Gillian Anderson waited and played a role in the play Absent Friends , for which she received the Theater World Award for Best Young Actress . After this success, her next project was The Turning , but it flopped.

After a guest appearance on the US television series Class of '96 in 1992, she finally received her first major television role: the lead role as special agent Dana Scully in the X-Files series by Chris Carter . With her series partner, David Duchovny , she had her big international breakthrough as an actress. Originally the role was to be cast with a blonde woman, but Carter was eventually convinced by Anderson's agents and insisted on the red-haired actress.

Her pregnancy was also a source of trouble, and the question of Anderson's release arose. However, Carter insisted on her continued employment and built pregnancy into the role. The kidnapping, which was initially supposed to serve as a stopgap solution to explain the short-term absence of the leading actress, had a major impact on the series. Carter himself often said that the full story only developed gradually. Without the pregnancy, which was first seen as a disability, the series would have taken a completely different course.

Anderson played Dana Scully for nine years in almost all of the 202 episodes, as well as in the films X-Files - The Movie (1998) and The X-Files - Beyond Truth (2008) and received numerous awards for her performance. In addition to this television engagement, she starred in other movies, including The Mighty - Together They Are Strong (1998), Chicago Cab (1998), Live and Love in LA (1998), Bellomont House (2000).

After the preliminary end of the X-Files series , Anderson moved to London . There she made the films The Mighty Celt (2005) and A Cock and Bull Story (2005) , among others . She also turned back to the theater, starring in What the Night is for and The sweetest Swing in Baseball by Rebecca Gilman in London's West End .

Earned much praise Anderson for her portrayal of Lady Dedlock in the multi-part BBC - film adaptation of Charles Dickens -Romans Bleak House from 2005. She has both the Emmy and the Golden Globe nominated. This was followed by a role in The Last King of Scotland (2006) alongside the Oscar- winning Forest Whitaker and a leading role in the revenge thriller Straightheads (2007).

In 2008 Anderson was initially back as Dana Scully , who was now working as a doctor in the hospital, in the X-Files - Beyond the Truth in the cinema. She then appeared in the comedy New York for Beginners (2008) on the side of Simon Pegg , Kirsten Dunst and Jeff Bridges .

In the early summer of 2009, Anderson played again in London theater. She took on the role of Nora in a new version of the play A Doll's House (German title: Nora or Ein Puppenheim ) by Henrik Ibsen in the Donmar Warehouse .

She then had a role in the Channel 4 film adaptation of William Boyd's acclaimed novel Any Human Heart , which aired in four parts in the winter of 2010.

In the spring of 2011 she appeared in the multi-part, BBC- produced television miniseries The Crimson Petal and the White . In the film adaptation of Michel Faber 's novel of the same name from 2002, she played the role of Mrs. Castaway , a brothel owner in London in the 1870s.

Since 2013 she has played the lead role of Stella Gibson in the BBC Two crime series The Fall - Death in Belfast alongside Jamie Dornan .

In the summer of 2014 she stood next to Ben Foster and Vanessa Kirby in the Young Vic Theater as Blanche DuBois in Tennessee Williams ' end of the line longing on stage. For her performance, she was awarded the London Evening Standard Theater Award - Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress in the same year .

For the BBC Radio 4 series A History of Ideas , Anderson took on the role of spokesperson in various animated videos that presented various philosophical ideas alongside Harry Shearer .

On June 8, 2015, filming began for six new episodes of the X-Files series , in which Anderson slips back into the role of Dana Scully. The new episodes began broadcasting on Fox on January 24, 2016.
