Harry Julius Shearer (born December 23, 1943 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor , screenwriter and voice actor .

Career

Shearer began his career as a child when he starred in the 1953 film The Robe and was also seen on television ( The Jack Benny Program ). Shearer also played Frankie in the pilot episode of the series Leave It to Beaver ( Leave It to Beaver ).

From 1969 to 1976 Shearer was a member of the radio comedy group The Credibility Gap in Los Angeles.

In This Is Spinal Tap (1984) by Rob Reiner was he co-wrote and starred. The fictional band Spın̈al Tap also appeared in an episode of The Simpsons , in the original with the voices of Michael McKean , Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer.

As voice actor in the original English version of the animated series The Simpsons, Shearer lends his voice to numerous characters, including Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Rev. Lovejoy, Dr. Hibbert, Headmaster Skinner, Lenny, Kent Brockman, Rainier Wolfcastle, Scratchy, Kang, Dr. Marvin Monroe, God and Jebediah Springfield. On May 13, 2015, Shearer announced on Twitter that he would leave the series after the 26th season due to contractual disputes; in July 2015 it was announced that he would continue to work for the Simpsons .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Shearer has been married to the singer Judith Owen since 1993 . He lives in London .
