Rob Reiner
Robert "Rob" Reiner (born March 6, 1947 in the Bronx , New York City ) is an American film director , producer and actor .
Life
Reiner comes from a Jewish family in the Bronx. He is the son of the director Carl Reiner and the actress Estelle Reiner .
As a twelve year old he appeared in the series 77 Sunset Strip . He subsequently appeared in Alfred Hitchcock presents , Batman , The Andy Griffith Show , The Beverly Hillbillies and The Partridge Family . He became popular with his Emmy- winning role as son-in-law Michael 'Meathead' Stivic in the series All in the Family (the German adaptation of it was Ein Herz und ein Seele ).
His film Stand by Me brought him nominations as a director from the Directors Guild of America (DGA; Union of US Directors) and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association . He booked his second and third DGA nominations for the films Harry and Sally and A Question of Honor , for which he also received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture .
In 1987 he founded the production company Castle Rock Entertainment with Andrew Scheinman , which was sold in 1991.
He was also in front of the camera in the romantic comedy Alex & Emma , which he co-produced . He has also been seen in supporting roles in other films, for example in Sleepless in Seattle , Bullets Over Broadway , Throw Mama Off the Train! , The Club of Devils , With all might and EDtv .
In 2005 he succeeded again with Where love falls ... , a kind of sequel to The Graduation Examination . As a narrator, Reiner was involved in the 2006 animated family adventure Everyone's Hero .
In the television series New Girl , Reiner played the father of the protagonist Jessica Day, portrayed by Zooey Deschanel , in several episodes . In 2013 he appeared as an actor in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street .
In the United States, Reiner is also known for his work as a political activist. He supported the election campaigns of the Democratic presidential candidates Al Gore (2000), Howard Dean (2004) and Hillary Clinton (2008). In 2006 he was a candidate for governor of California , but did not stand against incumbent Arnold Schwarzenegger for personal reasons . Reiner is a member of the Social Responsibility Taskforce , an organization of the Directors Guild of America , which advocates more ownership of the entertainment industry on issues such as violence or tobacco consumption. He is also an active opponent of the war and an environmentalist. He became an important figurehead of the American tobacco opponents when he was able to get a campaign through in 1998 that early childhood education programs in the state of California should be financed by an increase in tobacco tax. Reiner therefore also got a guest role in the satirical program South Park (season 7, episode 13), where he can be seen as a radical, junk food addicted tobacco opponent.
From 1971 to 1979 he was married to the actress and director Penny Marshall , whose daughter Tracy Reiner he adopted. In 1989 he married Michele Singer. The second marriage had three children.
